Did you always cook?
No. Before I moved in with Dominic & had a Job back in Munich I was simply to tired to cook. I lived with my mom & she pretty much made some dinner or brought some take away or I would meet some friends after work for food.
Of course I would cook now & then but wouldn’t try new recipes or would put much effort in making the food. So I really started cooking when I got together with Dominic. Now I cook mostly twice a day, which is brunch & dinner.
You post a lot of your own food, are you guys going out to eat too?
Before we had Ava we occasionally went out for some food, yes. But I was really trying to impress Dominic haha
Staying out in the restaurant with no pressure, having a drink or two & some dessert were a treat, a true luxury. Freedom was so lovely!
I remember making lamb chops & they were a big fail! Never ever made them again but maybe I will give it a try at some point again (I don’t eat lamb tho).
Of course we would love to go out to eat more often but it is all about timing & planing.
Currently we live in Paris & the ‘good’ restaurants are in the city. We live like 30 minutes from the center but just to get there is a hike! Traffic is a mess. So we really be sitting at home & thinking, is it worth it to do all this driving + the waiting for food in the restaurant? And mostly the answer is no because honestly in the meantime I could have made us a nice meal & I am able to give Ava the food she wants & she’s able to walk around & be happy until she has to sit down with us.
Aren’t you tired of cooking?
I would lie if I would say;no, I don’t mind being in the kitchen. Of course there are days where I’m like – meeeeh I don’t want to cooooook. Just like you guys when you don’t want to get up for work or going to the gym! But once you get started it is not that bad.
I just got really picky. I keep thinking; why would I want to spend money on this dish in a restaurant when I can do it on my own too? Probably saves us money haha
Where are you getting your ideas from?
Well, I keep asking Dominic what he would like to eat & mostly the answer is, i don’t know or I don’t care. Don’t we all love those answers?!
So this is where I am going to my favorite website: recipetineats.com.
I found her when I was craving some fish with lemon sauce. Her recipe was so simple that I had to save the website & ever since I use it)
Her recipe are easy. Sometimes I fail too tho but that’s ok.
I also find inspiration from google. I type in what meat I want to use & then I just click trough the answers or suggestions.
What also happens sometimes that Dominic & i get to eat a friends place & when he likes the dish I am simply asking for the recipe.
As you can see there are a lot of ways to get inspired.
You’re traveling a lot – it is easy to get every ingredient?
So the thing here is – I am getting mostly all the ingredients but the textures can be different or labeled different.
For example: The one recipe was from America & required cream cheese.
I was in France & bought the cream cheese I know. Turned out my cream cheese was too liquid compared to the American ones. Because my cream didn’t turn out like the one in the video. But it worked out & the food was still good!
I try to improvise when I can’t find the right ingredient.
Overall I enjoy cooking but it is not always easy. When I’m alone I barely cook because I hate cooking for myself. I like to see other people eat & enjoy my food.
Ava is not always a good partner while I’m in the kitchen & wants attention or want to be held. I can’t wait until she’s old enough to help me & to learn some basic skills.
Funny how you stay in the kitchen for like 2 hours (cleaning the dishes afterwards included) when the food is gone in like 30 minutes haha
But sitting at the table all together is a nice feeling.
I hope I inspired you guys & answered some question.
